Hill area of Tallinna Lauluväljak offers visitors a history tour

The so-called Hill area of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds now features an installation called “Ilmaratas/Worldwheel”, which introduces visitors the history of song festivals and the Song Festival Grounds in Estonian and English languages. This marks the completion of yet another phase in the renovation of the Song Festival Grounds and in the development of the Visitor Centre.

“The Hill area, the tourist gateway to the Song Festival Grounds, has become significantly more representative in recent years, and now offers much more than only a breathtaking view,” says Urmo Saareoja, CEO of Tallinna Lauluväljak. “I consider it very important that our visitors can get an in-depth overview of the history of Estonia and the tradition of song festivals, and learn about major concerts held in the Song Festival Grounds.”

“I am very grateful to our partners from the agency Motor for creating a solution that fits well into the surroundings, is a center for information and is visually pleasing,” Saareoja said, adding: “Tourism is growing again and we hope that a lot of tourists will soon find their way to our Visitor Centre.”

Ott Sarapuu, CEO of the agency Motor, said: “We are happy to contribute to the development of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds again. The most important aspect in the Hill area is the view to the Gulf of Tallinn and to the stage complex. This is why we tried to design this installation in a rather minimalistic way, so that it does not seem excessive, but still provides valuable assistance for the fans.”

According to Saareoja, the Hill area is gradually obtaining its planned look. “Last year we completed a pavilion with a rooftop terrace which serves both as an information point and café. This fall we will continue with the construction of the Song Festival Wall, which has been overdue for a long time. The next task is landscaping which will make the area even more enjoyable,” added Urmo Saareoja, CEO of Tallinna Lauluväljak.

The Hill area of Tallinn Song Festival Groups is accessible from Narva maantee, the installation “Ilmaratas/Worldwheel” is located in the immediate vicinity of the Pavilion Aste.
