Since 2004, Gustav Ernesaks Monument of Estonian composer and choir director, has been "sitting" on the slope of Tallinn Song Festival Grounds Hill - watching and feeling proud. It is also the most loved viewing spot for tourists visiting Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, because it is from here that the best view to both the grounds and Tallinn Bay opens up.
The leader of the creation of the monument was the Estonian Male Choirs Association, which also organized a design competition, which received a total of 12 works. The winners were Ekke Väli and Vello Lillemets, who are the authors of today's monument. The bronze Gustav is 2.25 m high and weighs 2.5 tonnes.
Every year, on December 12, the anniversary of the birth of Gustav Ernesaks, the Estonian Male Choirs Association holds a lively commemorative event at Gustav's statue.
