The Weeknd is the most-nominated artist at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards with 17 nods, including Top Artist. He announced the next destinations of his After Hours Til Dawn world tour in 2023, and Tallinn is among them. The Weeknd will perform in Estonia for the first time on August 12, 2023. Kaytranada and Mike Dean will join as special guests.
The tour starts on June 10th in Manchester, Great Britain. The Weeknd will arrive in Tallinn on August 12, 2023. The North American part of the tour was fantastically successful - audience records were broken, and more than 130 million dollars have been collected so far, a large part of which goes to charity.
Behind the stage name of The Weeknd is the 32-year-old Canadian musician Abel Tesfaye, who in his youth did not stand out with the most exemplary behaviour. However, after a run-in with the police due to drug dealing, he decided to change his ways and began to focus on music. He had a strategy: promote his music anonymously at first, then revealing more of himself every year. Success followed when Drake's manager Oliver El-Khatib helped promote the musician and from there led to bigger collaborations.
The Weekend won his first Grammy for the soundtrack to Beauty Behind the Madness while receiving an Oscar nomination for his song Earned It (2015), written for Fifty Shades of Grey. "I think the stars definitely did align for me," he told the press. "Even though we put a lot of hard work into it, I just feel like it was right place, right time."
The success of the film music was followed by the conquest of the charts with the song Can't Feel My Face (2015). The following album Starboy (2016) also brought hits to the charts, and The Weeknd has so far charmed fans with his flawless falsetto, soul-scratching lyrics, and hypnotizing beats. Save Your Tears (with Ariana Grande), Blinding Lights, Wicked Games, Out of Time are just a few of the songs that have made The Weeknd one of the most nominated artists for awards, with 17 nominations this year at the Billboard Music Awards.
Though he long aspired to stardom, "Never in a million years," did he imagine this, he admitted to Rolling Stone. "I thought I'd be a punk star—grow my hair out, acne on my face, super-f--king-skinny. I was looking at artists like Iggy Pop and the Ramones, or Afropunk. But you evolve and realize your potential. And then it's like, 'F--k yeah. Let's go.'"
The After Hours Til Dawn Tour celebrates The Weeknd's 2020 album After Hours. Its hit single Blinding Lights was named the new #1 Billboard Hot 100 song of all time, beating out Chubby Checker's 1960 hit The Twist. 2022's album Dawn FM has also received critical acclaim. Kaytranada and Mike Dean will perform with The Weeknd in Europe.
Abel Tesfaye is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN World Food Programme, which means a portion of the tour's ticket sales will go to the XO Humanitarian Fund to help alleviate the global hunger crisis. In addition, donations are made by tour partners. After Hours Til Dawn is sponsored by global blockchain system Binance. Every ticket includes a Souvenir NFT from Binance. In order to receive this NFT you must sign up for an account with Binance and claim the NFT.
